Wonderland Birthday Party
Alice in Wonderland Party Details: This is what Dolores shared about the party- “My daughter Mia chose Alice in Wonderland as her 7th birthday party theme. We decided to do a classic little girls Tea Party with a vintage flair and call the party Mia in Wonderland. For our venue, we were lucky to find a quaint local tea parlor with a gorgeous natural Texas landscape. For the printed décor we leaned on the original 1865 Alice in Wonderland illustrations for everything, there were lots of options available using these gorgeous illustrations. For the party tablescape we created a moss table runner and added in fresh red roses. The runner was also dotted with edible mushroom meringues dusted with cinnamon sugar created by my fantastic baker; the kids adored these unexpected treats. We set the table with a hodgepodge of mismatched teacups and in each placed a glass vial that said Drink Me filled with Kool-Aid. As avid crafters, most of the party elements were handmade by Mia and I over the course of a few months. We love to decoupage so we created a collection of decoupage bowls and tiered dishes and for the table a ton of glass bauble scatter with Alice illustrations. Every year I like to make one special art piece to commemorate the special day, so this year I made a twisted wire tree with crystal hearts on stone hill of moss and crafted a tiny Alice of polymer clay falling down the hole to Wonderland. As the guests arrived, each child was given a handmade playing card hair bow and a real looking glass necklace we made from a large oval cabochon as they played a spirited game of Old Maid with jumbo playing cards on the front porch. Meanwhile, the girls had visited the face painter and had a photo taken in the custom made Wonderland photobooth that her Dad made to look like a miniature room. The girls loved pretending to be giants in this miniature room! On to the tea party, the girls played Alice Bingo and decorated their own cupcake baked in a little silicone teacup. Next they enjoyed finger sandwiches with a myriad of sweets. So many cookies including stamped Eat Me shortcakes, Earl Grey chocolate dipped teabag cookies, meringue roses, and a selection of Alice themed sugar cookies. After tea the highlight of the party was the party finale: Tweedle Dee Tweedle Dum 3-Legged Scavenger Hunt. We created miniaturized lists of items to hunt for that the girls would have to use their Looking Glass pendant to read. With legs tied with stockings, the girls searched for as many things on the list in the time allotted. Finally, before each child left they collected a favor bag with a host of handmade items. For the bags we used natural drawstring muslin bags printed with the Mia in Wonderland design with a little brass key charm.
