Teddy Bear’s Picnic Baby Shower
This is what Robyn shared about the party-
‘The inspiration for this shoot was the popular childrens book and song, by Jimmy Kennedy, the Teddy Bears Picnic. Being an all-time classic, this theme brought back nostalgic vibes for the Mama to-be, having grown up listening to the book as a favourite bedtime story. Scenes from the book were recreated for the shoot, bringing to life lines from the story mixed with modern décor to create a cozy, intimate and inviting picnic. The shoot took place in a private residence on the West Coast, in Victoria, British Columbia, that set the scene as described in the opening words, If you go down in the woods today, you’re sure of a big surprise.
Location Perfected
The house selected was nestled in a wooded park, with large trees and a unique rock formation and fountain built right into the entrance truly bringing the outside inside. A canvas banner with the script Welcome to the Woods greeted guests at the bottom of the long tree-lined driveway. The vision was to create a sophisticated teddy bears picnic, with a rich colour scheme of burgundy, navy and light blue, with accents of gold, wood and rattan to keep the picnic theme throughout. Cozy fur throws, knitted blankets, with plush velvet pillows and poufs were scattered for guests to be comfortable while dining at the dark stained pallet table. An antique leather rocking chair for the Mama Bear to-be was at the head of the table, while rattan lanterns, wood rounds, and picnic baskets adorned the eating area and dessert table. There’s lots of marvelous things to eat. And wonderful games to play. Finger food was a must for this cozy picnic, two abundant charcuterie boards were the focal point of the tablescape, letting guests graze on a spread of meats, cheeses, fruits and nuts. A spinach feta and sundried-tomato quiche was also served, paired with a seasonal blackberry red wine sangria. Place settings were kept modern using gold utensils, and a gold rimmed charger layered with a brown rattan charger to balance out classy and casual. Hand-dipped ombre place cards were tucked into loosely knotted sky-blue napkins for each guest, along with a vintage goblet for their blackberry sangria. Ev’ry Teddy Bear who’s been good. Is sure of a treat today.
Delicious Desserts
To finish off the picnic menu, guests were treated to dainty classic desserts. These included rustic pumpkin pie, blueberry crumble, bitesize chocolate chip cookies and homestyle ginger molasses cookies. In, addition, a 6 chocolate cake covered with white icing that resembled a rustic bark-like texture, with mini double chocolate cupcakes were served. More sweet treats included Haribo candies to mimic blackberries, chocolate covered gummy bears and a custom puppy chow mix. This included classic teddy grahams, cinnamon chocolate covered gummy bears and beehive black licorice; a combination that is hard to keep your paws off of. Homemade mini jars of strawberry, apricot and blackberry jam were given out as guest favours. Invitations arrived in dark navy envelopes. They were addressed in white calligraphy script with a simple nature-inspired invitation to the shower. Of course, it couldnt be a teddy bears picnic without some bears in attendance. A teddy bear adorned with a flower crown stole the best seat in the house – Mama Bears rocking chair. While a few other vintage teddy bears came out to attend the festivities as well. True to the story, At six o’clock their Mommies and Daddies will take them home to bed, because they’re tired little Teddy Bears. ‘
