So turn that 80’s music up and give each character a nod because these adorable cookies are sure to be a hit and will turn any Stranger Things event Upside Down!
Stranger Things Sugar Cookies
Before you get Started
You’ll need to bake some cookies and make the icing. Check out this post with recipes and instructions to get started.

Stranger Things Character Decorated Cookies
Get ready to make Stranger Things Character cookies! There is a lot of bouncing back and forth between different parts of the characters. You’ll need to do this while waiting for the royal icing to harden in order to continue layering and working on specific parts. This also saves time so you’re not waiting for each step to harden before moving on to others since that would take hours!
Start with piping a circle and fill it in to make the head. Make sure to leave some space above the forehead so we can add some hair later. Use the copper or brown gel to make various skin tones.
Next, you’ll want to pipe each character’s shirt. Mix a small amount of icing into the flood consistency for each color. Don’t forget to add the arms in!
Pipe flood consistency icing in the appropriate color for each character’s bottoms. Remember, a little food coloring gel goes a long way, so add a little bit at a time to get the desired color.
Add hair using the original royal icing consistency so that the hair keeps its texture. Use a star tip to create curly, wavy, or straight hairstyles. Don’t forget to add any hair accessories on after the hair hardens. Since some of the characters have more clothing layers than others, be sure to add those in now once the first layer shirt is hardened. You’ll need to add in Max’s white sleeves and Dustin’s light blue vest with flood consistency icing.
Now, while we’ve been waiting for the pants to harden, you can finally add on the legs and feet to each character using flood consistency icing. By this time, the face should be hardened enough for you to add a smiley face onto each character using a black edible marker.
We’re almost finished! Add any finishing details onto each character such as pockets and shirt designs with the black edible marker. We used light brown as a base color for a majority of the hair, if you need to darken the hair or want to add some depth to the hair, mix some lemon extract with the desired color and get to painting the hair. Use different color edible markers to color on the white sleeves of Max’s shirt to make a rainbow effect and add white lines for the hoodie strings – don’t forget the lime green scrunchie.
Finally, add white lines to Steve’s outfit along with a red necktie and hat with “AHOY” written on.
Stranger Things Logo Decorated Cookies
Start with a baked rectangular cookie, this can be any size you would like! Pipe black flood consistency icing onto the entire cookie.
Print out the Stranger Things logo to the same size as the baked rectangular cookie. Position the printed logo on top of the dried cookie.
Use the scribe and gently trace the logo onto the cookie. Don’t press hard enough to rip through the paper otherwise, you might create unwanted holes into the dried black icing. Light pressure will give you enough of an outline in order to pipe over. Once you’re done with that, you can always go over the faint lines once more for a more defined outline. It’ll be easier to see and pipe over.
Using red icing with a stiffer consistency, pipe over the scribe lines.
