Party Details:
” ‘Time to clean up your dinosaur toys in your room Jakobi!’ is a familiar catchcry in our house. So familiar is it to share a couch with a stegosaurus or dodge a velociraptor in the hallway that it was only natural that Jakobi’s birthday theme had to be dinosaurs. Theme:Jakobi was turning ten and when researching this theme, I noticed how narrow the party market is: you can find plenty of dinosaur items, but many don’t match. There’s baby dinosaur things, which is too babyish for a ten year old. There are gory bloodcurdling dinosaurs, that are really quite graphic and lastly, it appears that most designers angling for the pre-teen dinosaur market go for the easy designing option of doing silhouette dinosaurs. Invite:I didn’t like any of these options so I created my own take on the dinosaur invitation. They are available here.Rather than focusing on earthy browns and dull greens, I chose teals and forest greens as my main colours and an accent of sky blue. Not only does it appear fresh, but it makes the whole area feel brighter and more like a party environment. Cake:The cake was designed by the amazing Alena’s Cake Fancies and was devised after seeing the invitation I created. It was filled with a tier of red velvet and the most beautiful chocolate mud flavour. The other custom designed item was done by Jade at Kara & Moo. Given the invitation as inspiration, I was amazed with the details she was able to achieve in the amazing cookies. Food:Other food items were green candy, green jelly ooze, muffins sculpted into a volcano shape and covered in coloured chocolate and macarons decorated with coloured chocolate. Chocolate eggs are also a wonderful addition, being readily available at Easter and further dinosaur theming was created through chocolate wrappers and jellybean boxes. The last item were pretzels and popcorn covered in white chocolate to represent dinosaur bones. Activities:The activities on the day included hunting for dinosaur eggs (treasure hunt with plastic hollow Easter Eggs filled with treats), a dinosaur pinata, adopt a dinosaur activity and we created colourful volcanoes by colouring baby oil with food dye and then adding alka seltzers to a closed bottle and then shaking them up.” – Gayle | Eninkma More dinosaur fun can be found HERE!
