Rainbow Unicorn Party Details: This is what Sara shared about planning the party- “This year my daughter discovered one of my favorite childhood toys….My little Pony! It was so fun for me to watch her play and pretend just like I did when I was her age. When it came time to start planning her birthday party we knew that it would be inspired by these colorful, magical characters. My party style is very non-commercial so there were very few signs of actual “characters” at the party, but the inspiration was there. Her favorite ponies are the unicorns so we used rainbow colors and unicorns throughout the party. This party was fun! There was so much for the girls to do. We hosted the party on a weekday at the local fairgrounds under a quite large pavilion. The weekday cost is free and the picnic tables are included. This left me a little bigger budget for entertainment. The first station was the “Beauty Spot” where each girl got a rainbow manicure, bright colored hair chalk, a unicorn character necklace, bracelets and best of all a handmade unicorn headband. My friend and I got together and made the headbands out of felt before the party and the girls loved wearing them. The next station was the “Decorate your own Magical Pony” table. I found pink, blue and yellow ponies that looked almost exactly like the real thing at the dollar store. They were missing the “cutie mark”, which made it perfect for the girls to create their own designs with markers. They even colored the hair with the markers. They were really creative and it was such a fun and ine xpensive activity. We also had a unicorn craft table with a couple DIY crafts. Next up we had a face painting station with just the well known “cutie marks” for options. We hired a wonderful local face painter and printed a poster with the cutie mark options. I had simple white gift bags with the girl’s names on them that they carried around to each station to keep track of the crafts and gifts that they collected along the way. After the girls crafted and transformed into magical unicorns, we had a very special surprise guest….a PINK haired pony! This was so magical. The initial reactions were priceless! They got to pet her and feed her apples and carrots. It was definitely the highlight of the party. The lunch was packed up in “pony power” clamshell boxes and set up at the picnic tables with colorful flowers. Each lunchbox came with a wrapped sandwich, applejack’s apple sauce, a wrapped juicebox, cheese and cracker sticks and of course a magical unicorn toy. It worked well even for picky eaters. We also had a really fun rainbow colored soda bar using vintage bottle sodas in every color and flavor. I was surprised about how much the girls loved this treat. The dessert table was a rainbow of sugar! My super talented sister, aka, Little Miss Sweet Tooth, made a fabulous rainbow layered cake, colorful unicorn cookies, rainbow draped oreos, and a rainbow of cake pops. I purchased “cutie mark” sugar sheets on ETSY just to bring that bit of character that all of the girls recognized to the party. These are very easy to add to the top of sugar cookies with just a bit of frosting as glue. Store bought cupcakes were covered with colorful sprinkles. The table was finished off with candy in all of the colors. My favorite candy was the twisted lollipops that were reminiscent of unicorn horns. Once they finished lunch they used the empty box to fill up with treats from the dessert table to take home. The boxes served double duty, which is always nice. I always give myself at least a couple of months, if not longer to plan because I like to shop little by little. As soon as we know the theme, the planning starts.” As if you couldn’t get any more inspiration with both rainbows and unicorns…what about adding in a little confetti with this Cue the Confetti Themed Birthday Party and this Confetti Bash Birthday Party!
