Picnic Party Details:This is what Valerie said about styling the party- “We Chicagoans look forward to Summer ALL YEAR LONG. Summer BBQs, park picnics and trips to the pool are on almost everyones must-do lists. Summer birthdays are a perfect excuse to entertain outside with friends and family. We were asked to plan and style a picnic themed party for a special little guy who was turning ONE. We wanted to keep the theme sophisticated and charming, while still establishing a casual and boy-ish vibe. We enlisted the graphic design assistance of Beth Kruse Custom Creations, who helped us create a slightly rustic but ultimately charming printables package that incorporated mason jars and sweet patriotic colors. We warmed up our color palette slightly by incorporating some tan, grey and wood elements. We set our dessert table off with a super sweet ruffled table cloth. This little element of frill was offset with casual and picnic inspired desserts. Fresh mini pies, buckets of skewered sour candy (our clients favorite) and cupcakes were all for the taking. These desserts were fuss-free and easy to handle and grab. Because our event was outside, we created our own little faux backdrop using a huge picnic basket full of beautiful flowers and fabric bunting strung from poles behind the table. This brought the eyes up and created structure to our table. For presents, we decided to utilize our natural environment and created a present tree. We hung tissue pom poms and black and white photos of the little boy throughout his first year of life from the tree. We covered the trunk of the tree with red gingham fabric to create a blanket of sorts. We draped a rosette banner with the little boys name from branches of the tree. It was a super sweet way to dress up our space — and easy to do too. Our simple park gazebo, was transformed into our party space. We tied twine from each column of the gazebo and hung more black and white photos of our guest of honor throughout the parameter of the gazebo. This created a fun way to see our guest of honor throughout his first year. Picnic tables were covered with sweet gingham and navy blue table coverings and dressed up with coordinating fresh flowers. First birthdays are certainly reason to celebrate. Enjoying these special memories in the presence of great friends and family and amazing weather is just icing on the birthday cake”.
