Modern Bumble Bee Dessert Table
This is what Cristina shared about planning/styling the party:
“My youngest daughter turned one in December and we celebrated at home with an intimate dinner party with a few friends. Of course, I styled a small dessert table, because it wouldn’t be a celebration at my place without one!
“Honey”
My daughter’s nickname is Mel, which means ‘honey’ in Portuguese. I thought a bumble bee theme was fitting for her first birthday and I happened to have the perfect printables for it! My 3-year old and I baked a chocolate cake and decorated it with vanilla frosting that I added a couple of drops of food coloring to, to make it yellow. Then, I added small sugar bees that I found at my local supermarket. Shhhh…don’t tell anyone but the frosting is store-bought too! I love a home-baked cake but I’m all for using the shortcuts available to make things easier. Plus, I think this cake turned out perfect in its simplicity and it wasn’t hard to make at all. I added a cake topper with the birthday girl’s name and the little bee from the printable party theme.
Party Favors
Thinking about our youngest guests, I quickly created some little tracing cards to give as party favors and to keep them busy before dinner. They have 4 different shaped paths to trace and I laminated them so they could be wiped and reused. I added a whiteboard marker and a cute tag held in place with black and white twine. Aren’t they adorable? Our little guests had fun tracing, wiping and starting over again, which gave the grown-ups plenty of time to mingle until dinner was served. The adults went home with a small chocolate bar that I wrapped with a bee chocolate wrapper. I don’t think party favors are necessary, especially for adults, but giving something small like this is a nice way to thank the guests for their presence and gifts.
One Year!
And just like that, my baby is ONE! I can’t believe how quickly this year went, I wish she could stay this little for longer but I’m also looking forward to watching her grow up next to her big sister and witness their adventures together. She loved this bumblebee party for her first birthday, I wonder if she will help me pick the party theme next year!
