Little Duckling Adoption Party Details:This is what Bethany said about designing/styling the party- “In early fall of last year, my husband and I adopted our youngest son. We had the joy of bringing him home from the hospital. Since we are finally moving out of that newborn haze, we thought it was high time we threw a party to celebrate our bouncing baby boy. My husband and I decided to make this a joint celebration where we celebrated both Oliver’s adoption and his baby dedication. We knew that we wanted the event to be outside, and since early May is still very pleasant in Atlanta, we knew that the grandparent’s farm would be the perfect spot. Throwing and hosting a party on location (with an 8 year old and a 7 month old) proved to be quite the feat, but we pulled it off and we couldn’t have been any more pleased with the day. When it came to choosing an invitation, theme, and color scheme for Oliver’s special day, I knew that I wanted to create something soft and sweet. I found the perfect “Our Little Duckling Has Arrived” invitation and pulled out a yellow and white color scheme as the jumping point for the rest of our party. My in-law’s farm has these lovely white fences and big trees. We set up the dessert table underneath one of the Japanese magnolia trees, and from the tree branches hung soft yellow paper fans and honeycomb balls. I used a simple yellow paper fringe garland to adorn the front of the table. The dessert table featured a two tiered cake with pastel yellow vertical ruffles; it was so lovely & absolutely delicious. I also had cupcakes which I decorated with cupcake wrappers and toppers from our invitation collection. Yellow macarons were a perfect addition to the dessert table, and those little duckling cake pops were just darling. I put the marshmallow pops in a vintage milk glass vase which was passed down to my from my grandmother. Little fondant ducks sat atop white chocolate petit fours, and cookies were made to match our invitation. I also served milk in vintage milk glass bottles for the guests. I found the most darling yellow damask straws which were the p erfect accompaniment to the party. Since the party was outside I wanted to make sure that all of our guests had plenty of room to sit and enjoy the beautiful weather. For the table centerpieces I hand crafted ruffle topiaries from the softest yellow fabric I could find. To offset the topiary centerpieces, I visited a local floral supplier and picked out beautiful white flowers and greenery. Each place setting included yellow and white polka dot cups and napkins offset with a simple white paper plate. It was so fun to think of each guest as I picked out everything for them to enjoy and celebrate with us. I also hand crafted a wreath for my sweet boy. I found a darling yellow seersucker which turned out perfectly in the finished wreath. My favorite part of the day was when everyone gathered around in rocking chairs and folding chairs on the front porch. The air was filled with laughter and joy as we all simply enjoyed being together as family friends. It was a day filled with such love and significance”. Love Kara’s Party Ideas?
