This is what Lisa shared about planning/styling the party- “Owning a wedding and event planning company, we are used to fun and exciting briefs. But, this one was more personal than usual as it was for my daughter who was turning 5 years old. She really wanted a Greatest Showman Party complete with PT Barnum and Anne Wheeler. We located a great blank canvas venue in a nearby town. Then, we set to work to create the styling of the event. In order to transform the space, we hired in some amazing circus-style props. These props gave us two distinct areas – the ‘entertainment’ stage and the food stalls. Colourful lights spelt out Circus, providing a great photo opportunity and the whole room was adorned with balloons in black, white red and gold to add a playful feel to the party.
Entertainment
The entertainers came in full character and entertained the children with balloon modelling, magic drinks, singing and dancing to their favourite Greatest Showman hits, as well as an element of storytelling. The children were captivated throughout. We also had a glitter and gem artist on hand to provide guests with glitter tattoos and gem facial art which was hugely popular!
Food and More!
When they got hungry, they were led into a second room, complete with white children’s furniture and themed tableware – a small lunch box full of tasty treats and drinks bottles adorned with the birthday girl’s name and age. For pudding it was over to the cake table where the showstopper proudly stood. A bespoke two tier cake complete with handmade cake topper, edible circus designed cake paper and an elephant and lion s can be seen in the film. Alongside the cake were various other edible treats including red and white striped macaroon kisses, cakepop lollipops, mini themed cupcakes, boxes of popcorn and sparkly lollipops. These were all hugely popular! At the end of the party all of the little guests were given a small party bag to include a colourful rainbow bracelet complete with silver circus tent charm, a bag of retro sweets and a hula hoop to take home with them!
Top Tips
- Large scale props allow you to create a circus-style venue in a blank canvas space. Hire a many as you can afford as they all add to the overall theming of the party.
- If you can, have the dining tables in a separate room to the entertainment. This ensures that people sit down and eat. It helps them to not be distracted by the other things going on in the space
- Balloons are a great way of adding colour to a blank canvas space and really help to dress a room
- Find a stationer / graphic designer who can create a series of paper goods for you to create a strong identity for the party. We worked with someone to provide all of the signage, stickers, lunch boxes and tags to ensure a cohesive look and feel.
- Great entertainers are worth their weight in gold and really help to keep the children amused – try to find ones who fit your theme and give them as much information as possible regarding the birthday girl / boy to personalise the experience
- Think outside of the box when it comes to party bags. The hula hoops were an unexpected treat for guests to take home and they were relatively low cost as they were purchased in bulk
- Have a great cake…the children loved our dessert table with bite-sized treats and not only did it look enticing, everything tasted really great as well.”
