There are so many elements that I just adore, but I especially love the cute and simple birthday cake with little goldfish on the side. This is what Kim said about planning the party- “I started planning Preston’s birthday party pretty much as soon as he was born :-) My husband loves to fish, so I wanted to incorporate fish/fishing into it but still make it appropriate for a 1 year old. I loved the idea of orange and blue as a color scheme for his June birthday, so from there, the goldfish theme sort of jumped out and then I added in a few “fishing” elements too. I’m not super crafty, so Etsy became my best friend as far as finding sellers to help make the items I was visualizing in my head. I did manage to make the “bubble” garland that I hung behind the food table (just circle paper punched blue paper and sewed it into long garlands to look like bubbles) and I also made the balloon wreath that hung on the front door. My favorite elements were the Monthly Photo Display…using a fish net, some of the bubble garland I made and some basic goldfish paper cutouts. I printed my favorite monthly pictures out as 8×10 and simply clipped them to the net with clothespins. It made a big impact and people were able to see how much he had changed over the months! I also loved the Goldfish Bar (different flavors of Goldfish crackers displayed in fish bowls) and the Chalkboard sign with all of his 12 month “stats” that was framed and displayed on the fireplace mantle. We kept the food pretty simple and kid friendly – chicken nuggets, fruit salad, veggies, pasta salad, Watermelon “shark fins”, pinwheel roll-ups and crab dip. For dessert we had cupcakes (from Sam’s Club but I decorated them) and adorable and delicious goldfish cake pops by the super talented Cake Pops by Kiki…they were a huge hit with the kids! I made the smash cake for the birthday boy and decorated it with vanilla flavored goldfish crackers – as you can see, he loved it! We had a “build your own flavored water” station with lemons, limes, oranges and mint, which went over well with both the adults and kids. Preston had a wonderful time running around with his friends and having everyone celebrate his first year! I’ve already started brainstorming ideas for his 2nd birthday”!
