It’s that fun time again, the time to reveal this month’s Michaels Makers challenge! This month Michaels gave us the category of ‘DENIM’!
For the challenge this month, I designed + created a DIY jean heart wedding cake topper with bleach letters! {Easy tutorial below!} Michaels has named denim the craft trend of 2015! Denim has always been a wardrobe staple and now its emerging in crafts, home decor, and party + wedding décor! If youre looking for some spring project inspiration, take a look at Michaels new Make Market line for DIY project and home décor ideas all made with simple, on-trend surfaces and textures like chalk, denim, galvanized, burlap and cork.
DIY DENIM HEART WEDDING CAKE TOPPER with BLEACH LETTERING tutorial…
Items needed: Denim Hearts (purchased from Michales) Clorox Bleach Pen Lace + Ribbon
Step 1: Carefully write the letters you desire onto the jean hearts using your bleach pen…
Step 2: Set the hearts aside and let the bleach process. Processing time depends on your denim, so you can test an area to see how long you need to leave the bleach on. I left mine on for about 5 hours. Step 3: Thoroughly rinse the jean hearts in water and allow to dry. Step 4: Iron the denim hearts if needed (sometimes the denim will curl up around the edges).
Step 5: With ribbon and lace, string the jean letter hearts between two sticks/skewers, attaching the lace to the skewers with hot glue.
And guess what, Michaels Makers readers are getting the inside scoop on an upcoming craft contest that will send one lucky participant on the trip of a lifetime to Paris. Check back on my blog March 2 to get all the details on how to enter!
