Colorful Tea Party Details: This is what Juliette shared about the party- “I have always wanted a tea party growing up. But as a daughter of a tiger mom and a very strict dad, I never got one. They thought that it was more important for me to practice violin, piano, and focus on my studies. Since I was the oldest daughter, they were harder on me. My younger sister, however, got a tea party since our neighbor who lived across the street happen to have a daughter who was the same age as her (and her parents were less strict). I remember seeing them have a tea party with their hats and cute tea cups and thinking how lucky they were. Ever since then, I always had tea party envy! :) Thankfully now I have 2 daughters who are at a perfect age for a tea parties so I decided to throw them one that I never got. ;) I also just started my own event planning business so I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to practice putting together an event. Most of my time was devoted to making the the giant tissue paper flowers that went on both walls. I bought the tissue papers in different hues of pink and white from Party City and followed youtube videos on how to make them. The teacups are from different antique stores including Not too Shabby in San Jose, Antiques Then and Now in San Carlos and some from my mother. I wanted the teacups to be mismatching but still have a common color theme that brought them together. For food, we served strawberry cream cheese sandwiches and ham and cheese sandwiches (all the the crusts cut off). The sweets such as the Mexican Wedding Cookies, the French Macarons, Fruit Tarts, and Sugar Squares were all from Draegers Market in San Mateo. The mini cupcakes were from Karas Cupcakes. Instead of real tea, we we served our guests warm water with honey. Since the chandelier in our living room is more modern, I wanted to make it a little bit more romantic and draped pearls and lace all around it. I added some faux roses at the top of the chandelier to compliment the paper flowers on the walls. For our main table centerpiece, I added fresh Peonies, Freesia, and Green Hortensia to a big white teapot to set the stage for the rest of the table. The cloth napkins are from Anthropologie. I made napkin rings out of faux pearls and 3-D paper butterflies. For the table cloth, I layered a floral table cloth underneath a crocheted white table cloth for more depth. Before the guests arrived, we covered up the room that had the table with the tea party spread with a big sheet. Once all the guests arrived, we had a big reveal where we dropped the sheet and opened up the room for the girls. I will never forget the look on the their faces. Priceless! :) Midway through the tea party, we played Royal Bingo that I bought from Etsy. The girls got bored after the first game and didnt want to play a second game. Haha. For another structured activity, I had them make 3-D butterfly posters by gluing pre-cut butterflies on colorful paper. I bought papers with pretty backdrops from Michaels and had butterflies already cut out using a butterfly shaped hole punch. They glued them on and folded the wings up and to make it 3-D. I taped a bunch of 3-D butterflies on the ceiling as well to add some more dimension to the room. I bought a Tea Cup Bean Bag Toss game from Party City that the girls seemed to enjoy. All in all the tea party was a great success and the mommies have requested that I throw them one too!”
